New Discovery: Deep Sea Fish Have Ears!
I never really wondered if fish had ears or not, but in a recent discovery scientists found fish in the deep end of the waters that evolved ears like no others. Examining several fish species collected from waters as deep as 1.6 miles (2.5 kilometers), researchers discovered ear structures never seen before in other fish. The strange structures may enhance the animals’ hearing, researchers speculate.

2010 Haiti earthquake
The 2010 Haitian earthquake was a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake. Its epicentre was near Léogâne, approximately 25 km (16 miles) west of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. The earthquake occurred at 16:53 local time (21:53 UTC) on Tuesday, 12 January 2010,[4][5] at a depth of 13 km (8.1 miles). The United States Geological Survey recorded a series of at least 33 aftershocks, 14 of which were between magnitudes 5.0 and 5.9.[6] The International Red Cross estimated that about three million people were affected by the quake;[7] the Haitian Interior Minister, Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, anticipated on 15 January that the disaster would claim between 100,000 and 200,000 lives.[3]
The earthquake caused major damage to Port-au-Prince and the surrounding area. Many notable landmark buildings were significantly damaged or destroyed, including the Presidential Palace (President René Préval, who was in the building at the time, escaped injury), the National Assembly building, the Port-au-
Prince Cathedral, and the main jail. Among those killed were the Archbishop of Port-au-Prince Monsignor Joseph Serge Miot,[8] Justice Minister Paul Denis and opposition leader Michel Gaillard.[9][10] The headquarters of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), located in the capital, collapsed, killing many, including the Mission’s Chief, Hédi Annabi.[11][12]
Many countries responded to appeals for humanitarian aid, pledging funds and despatching rescue and medical teams, engineers and support personnel. Communication systems, air, land, and sea transport facilities, hospitals, and electrical networks had been damaged by the earthquake, which hampered rescue and aid efforts; confusion over who was in charge and incoming flight congestion caused further problems for early relief work. Port-au-Prince’s morgues were quickly overwhelmed; the Haitian government announced on 21 January that over 80,000 bodies had been buried in mass graves.[2] As rescues tailed off, supplies and medical care became priorities.
Palace mourns death of Cerge Remonde; condolences pouring in
Press Secretary Cerge Remonde died Tuesday morning after suffering from cardiac arrest in his home in Makati City.
He was found unconscious at home in Bel-Air Village in Makati City, and was rushed much later to Makati Medical Center.
“Remonde was brought to the emergency department at Makati Medical Center at 11:20 a.m. He was unconscious, not breathing, [and] there was no heart beat,” said Dr. Erik Nubla, head of the patient relations of the Makati hospital.
“Attempts were made to resuscitate him. Despite heroic measures, he expired at 11:51 a.m.,” added Nubla, who read the medical bulletin. The doctor, however, did not state the cause of death.
Remonde was 51 years old.
Dr. Anthony Leachon, Remonde’s personal physician, said the press secretary’s “risk factors” were a bit high. He was hypertensive and had coronary heart disease and diabetes.
Leachon said cold bath water could trigger a heart attack for people with a medical background similar to Remonde.
Despite rains, thousands still flock to INC Central Temple
Thousands continue to pay respects
Thousands of INC members and friends of Manalo continued to troop to the INC Central Temple after his untimely death from cardiopulmonary arrest last Tuesday.
Megastar Sharon Cuneta and husband Senator Francis Pangilinan paid their respects Thursday night. Cuneta cried after seeing the family of Ka Erdie. The Cuneta family is close to the Manalo family.
Senators Panfilo Lacson, Alan Peter Cayetano, Pia Cayetano, Cong. Jose de Venecia, Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Lito Atienza, and Jesus Is Lord (JIL) leader Eddie Villanueva also paid their respects.
Presidential Management Staff Chief Hermogenes Esperon said that as a former soldier, he witnessed the discipline and spirituality of the members of the INC.
Most of those paying who paid last respects wore black ribbons and came from the provinces.
Many governors from various provinces also came. They said Manalo’s leadership was an inspiration which should be followed by church leaders and even local government leaders.
Pasay City local officials, led by City Mayor Peewee Trinidad, also visited the Central Temple. Trinidad recalled that Ka Erdie was still a young man when he met him, and the INC church in Pasay was still small. Today, the INC church is a big concrete temple, an indication that he has achieved a lot for his flock.
Both sides of Commonwealth Ave. got filled with parked buses of the delegations which came from the provinces.
History of Cell Phones..
The beginning history of cell phones is based upon radio technology that was developed from the 1940’s onward. For instance the beginning of cell phones can be traced to the innovation in taxi cabs, police cars and other service vehicles where two way radios were used to communicate with one another or with a central base. Early cell phone communication technology could be even traced back to individuals with special radios that can patch into a phone line via live operator to make a phone call.
The first official mobile phone was used in Sweden by the Swedish police in 1946. The technology was connected to the telephone network and was distinctive of two way radio technology.
